Tips for Saving Money

Published by morolica at 12:48 pm under Financial Tips Edit This

Since we are talking budget right now, let’s take a look at some simple things you can do to save money.

  • Get rid of pay channels on your cable service.
  • Reduce you cable service to the basic package.
  • Get rid of cable.  I was a huge tv junkie and did it, and I don’t miss it.
  • Take your lunch to work.  This is a HUGE money saver.
  • Reduce your internet speed to the lowest tier offered.
  • Remove data service plans from your  cell phone.  Do you really need it?  Most don’t.
  • Get rid of home phone services such as caller ID, call waiting and voice mail.  Any cheap Wal Mart answering machine can be checked when you are away from home just as easily as the pricey voice mail that the phone company offers.
  • Increase health insurance or car insurance deductibles.  (Only if you have the difference in savings)  This will lower your premium.
  • Take advantage of coupons.
  • Start buying items from thrift and consignment stores instead of normal retail stores.
  • Lower the temperature on your water heater.
  • Set your thermostat 1 - 2 degrees warmer during the summer and cooler during the winter (or more).  This is another HUGE money saver.

I’ll keep sharing ideas as we go through the whole budgeting process.  Stay tuned.

Lots of great ideas here, especially about TV. These days you can watch just about anything online for free anyway!

    Great blog!
