Why Buy or Rent When You Can Get It Free

Let’s talk about the library today. Specifically using the library as the main (and free) source of your media needs. Membership is free as long as you live in the county (otherwise you can’t join) and you can usually reserve items online and pick them up at your local branch. You can even have items transferred in from other libraries if your local library doesn’t stock them.

My oldest boy loves to read, or be read to (he is only 2.5, so he doesn’t actually read). His appetite is voracious when it comes to books. So off we went last Tuesday to vote in a run-off election here. And since we vote in the library we took the opportunity to pick up four Arthur books and seven assorted children’s movies for him to watch.

We get to keep them for a week, and if that isn’t long enough we can extend the date by another week.

Besides children’s books and movies, the library stocks the lastest bestsellers as well as movies and has an assortment of periodicals and newspapers to be read on site. Most offer free internet connections and some even allow you to use their computers and printers for school related work, although you must pay per page printed.

Most libraries will have story times for children, which gives parents a chance to look around the library sans kids. So check out your local library and see how much money it can save you. Most people read books and magazines once, whether they bought them or borrowed them, so use your library to your financial advantage.
