Hot Water Heaters, part II
While I’m on the subject of hot water heaters, I should mention a few more ways to save some cash where they are concerned. An addendum to yesterday’s Tip of the Day will help decide if you need to insulate your hot water heater (most likely you will). Place your hand on the hot water heater. If you feel any kind of heat at all, the internal insulation isn’t enough and you should add external insulation.
Another way to save money is with the temperature setting on the hot water heater. It is usually a dial located near the bottom of the heater. Turn it down to save money by not having to heat it as hot. If you have to add cold water to your hot water in order to wash your hands or take a shower, you probably have the temperature set too high. Turn it down and save money.
